- Dreams are a reflection of the dreamer's inner world. While each individual is greatly influenced by the world around them, dreams reflect the dreamer's mental, emotional, and physical state. Many dream symbols and contexts reflect the dreamer's beliefs and cultural influences. In other words, dreams are as unique and as individual as dreamers. So, although only the dreamer truly knows what his/her dream means to them, this article explores what each color might typically symbolize to people.
- Dream interpretation is most effective when the dreamer takes an active role in exploring and discovering the personal meaning of his/her dream and the symbol is analyzed within the context of the dream's content, what emotions were evoked in the dreamer while he/she was experiencing the dream, and the current day-to-day influences of the dreamer. It is important for the dreamer not only to recognize what meanings resonate most but what meanings produce a strong response. If a dreamer is deeply offended or annoyed by an interpretation, this may hint at a possible issue the dreamer is attempting to deny or repress. The Meaning of Color in a Dream

A dream of bright pink lipstick would have a much different meaning than a dream of a bright pink knife. Dreaming of bright pink has one meaning if it is your favorite color and an entirely different meaning if you absolutely despise that hue.
It is important to note that dreams can mean so many things to each individual and could even mean more than one thing within the same dream. It is common for dreams to be layered; a symbol may relate to something that occurred during the day, to our subconscious, to our spiritual growth, and to events in our childhood influencing our beliefs, thoughts, and behavior now. Dreaming of Red
Red typically represents feelings of passion, anger, aggression, power, impulsiveness, or a sense of danger.
Red is typically associated with blood. It could symbolize life for some while others may view red as a symbol of death. It is important to determine if the dream is showing high energy or loss of energy.
In Hindu/Chinese cultures, red is worn by brides and may be associated with weddings, celebrations, and the dreamer's ideas of a bride or marriage. Red is also associated with the root chakra located at the base of the spine. For some, the color red may relate to chakras and symbolize earth, grounding oneself, the physical body, survival, and physical health.
Maroon is associated with warriors, heroism, strength, bravery, and courage.

Dreaming of Pink
Pink is a combination of red and white. It is an innocent version of red. Pink represents love, sweetness, happiness, kindness, romance, compassion, softness, and affection. It is associated with femininity and could also be associated with being in young love or the healing powers of love and friendship.
Hot pink or magenta may represent feelings of lust and have a sensual undertone, like the color red.
Pink may also have negative connotations, especially if the dreamer dislikes pink. It can be a color of immaturity and weakness. Dreaming of Orange
Orange is typically associated with warmth, friendship, and other positive sun-related symbols such as a new dawn. Orange is a stimulating color. Bright orange gives a sense of vitality and optimism; it is the color of newness due to its association with the sun and a new day, new outlook.

Yellow can be seen as unpleasant, symbolizing cowardice (have you heard anyone call someone else "yellow"?) deceit, betrayal, indecisiveness, and sickness. In a more positive light, yellow can symbolize awareness, happiness, energy, intellect, harmony, and a positive mood/outlook. In general, yellow is found to be a mentally stimulating color which is why many offices and classrooms use this color. Most individuals connect yellow with the sun.

Dreaming of Gold
Gold is similar to yellow and silver but is associated with richness in life or spirit and enhancing the true self (who you truly are beyond the conscious ego) or developing the psyche. When something is gold in a dream, there is an emphasis on the object's value. The object is important. For example, gold fruit in mythology is a hero's prize for overcoming monsters. Golden fruit could symbolize the rewards we reap after facing our unconscious and taming those aspects of self that have become wild and aggressive through periods of neglect, ultimately integrating them back into our sense of self and our waking life.

Dreaming of Green
Green is commonly associated with nature, mother earth, good health, growth, fertility, healing, vitality, and serenity. Green is often associated with personal growth, new development in the dreamer's personality, and healing. Many dreamers may also associate green with a traffic light, making green a symbol telling them to go or allowing them to make a move. Green may represent being new to something or lacking experience.
Green, especially dark green, is sometimes associated with money (especially for Americans since that's the color of their currency), wealth, materialism, deceit, greed, and envy.
Eastern religions associate olive green with natural wisdom, achieving peace within one's environment, and Zen.

Dreaming of Blue
Blue tends to be a very spiritual color for most dreamers. Blue often represents truth, heaven, tranquility, peace, intuition, and whatever the dreamer associates with sky or ocean. Blue could even signify the desire for a vacation! The color can represent the collective conscious (see information on Carl Jung) or the subconscious. Blue is often associated with boys and could represent masculinity for the dreamer.
Different shades of blue can have very different meanings. Navy blue often means conformity and a lack of individualism since this color is typically associated with uniforms. Dark or washed-out blue may indicate depression and feelings of sadness.
Blue may also be associated with the fifth, throat chakra. This chakra is associated with communication, self-expression, thinking, and planning.

Dreaming of Purple
Purple often represents devotion, loving kindness, compassion, and healing abilities. In contrast, purple can also mean royalty, richness, highest rank, social power, and elitism.
Peep purple often represents mystery. Psychologically, this color could mean the dreamer is beginning to have awareness of an undiscovered dimension of self.
Violet is a shade of purple that can have a more spiritual meaning. It tends to still be associated with affection, charm, intimacy but is also associated with intuition, spirituality, religious aspirations, peace, and spiritual cleansing.
Variations of purple—indigo and violet—are associated with the sixth and seventh chakras located at the "third eye" and crown, respectively. Dreaming of Black
Black symbolizes mystery, the unknown, and the unconscious. These aspects can either be negative or positive. Negative meanings include danger, emptiness, evil, death, mourning, hatred, despair, deep depression, lack of energy, and lack of love. Positive meanings include exploration of the unknown, a blank slate, change, and hidden potential or possibilities.
Dreaming of White
White represents purity, innocence, cleanliness, new awareness, new beginnings, happiness, clarity, and peace. Brown represents the ground and the earth. It could mean practicality, domesticity, the physical, instinctual, or materialistic. Dreaming of the color brown may mean the dreamer needs to get back to basics, become more grounded, or explore their roots or the root cause of an issue. Brown may represent something negative to the dreamer such as depression, lack of clarity, or "muddiness."

Thank you for your comment and your interest in my hub! Understanding what the color could mean could unlock the meaning of some dreams particularly if an object is not it's natural color ex: suddenly your hair is blue. I would associate blue hair with sad, depressive thoughts and believes by the way. Since hair tends to relate to the extension of our brain's activity (thoughts/beliefs) a different color would mean our thoughts are somehow shaded by that color. Blue is often associated with sadness although could mean other things like having your head up in the sky. Thank you for reading!

1. The first one sounds like it could relate to a conflict in your life that may be damaging your inner child or something a little kid would symbolize such as loss of innocence. What does the color yellow mean to you? Could this be associated with being driven by fears? Since you are seeing many yellow cars, I would wonder if you are either noticing more yellow cars due to the dream or if this is a spiritual sign that the lessons in this dream are important to you and there is a greater purpose in life.
2. Seeing a person who has deceased (if you click on my name and see my profile, you can also get to a hub I wrote about dreaming of death and dying as well as one on dreaming of messages from the dead) can relate to processing their death and also symbolize a part of your spirituality or how this person influences your current life. This seems like a spiritual dream similar to your experience with the first one. Are you making greater spiritual connections and attempting to gain more insights? The foggy glass and the shadow relate to symbols of mystery and the unknown. Perhaps you are feeling some fears about the unknown. Your mom may relate to an aspect of self. Perhaps you are conflicted about your beliefs and thoughts right now. On one hand, you may feel you can have spiritual connections and on the other, you may feel it is psychological process you are experiencing.

Two recent dreams I dont understand.. 1st All i can remember is a yellow car hitting a little kid. Now I have been seeing at least 4 yellow cars every time I go out. 2nd dream was Me walking down a hallway but I only took a couple steps and looked into a doorway and seen my little stepbrother I asked him what are you doin? he said watching a movie, I walked into the room and my great grandma (passed away years ago) was sitting in a chair next to him. She was talking to me about my health and then she said "It is time for me to go." I could not speak she said bye and I love you. All I could do was a hand jesture, I could not follow her either. She walked away and dissapeared behind a foggy glass door. Then I seen a shadow hitting their head on the door. I told my step brother come on lets go and we left the room. The last thing I remember is talking to my mom in the dream about what happened and she said it wasn't really her. I am very confused any idea about this please let me know...

This is an interesting dream. Dreaming of other planets often relates to exploration of our unconscious and can be very positive and increase our self-awareness.
What you bring back would relate to what you are bringing into your consciousness. Who you give it to could relate to different aspects of self. The girl would relate to your anima, the unconscious feminine aspect of self and the father in law could relate to your inner critic or authority.
They are so divine and fresh so I would relate this to something very healthy, special and spiritual for you.
Green may relate to the heart chakra if this is a spiritual dream which relates to connections with others and love. Green could also relate to newness or growth. Giving these items to aspects of self would relate to more insight into these sides of self and your nurturing of these parts of w you.

hi Sue...u gotta help me with this one, i once in a while have flying dreams but i really want to understand he last one i had. in the dream i flew to another planet, or whatever it was but it was not in this planet. upon my return from that planet i came back with 2 things in my hands, a green divinely fresh rose and a green divinely fresh cabbage. i use 'divinely' because its the only word i can think of to describe the state of those 2things, a different level of freshness, not found on this planet. so the green rose i gave it to a girl, i cannot remember her face but she was supposedly my girlfriend and the cabbage i gave to her father, supposedly my father in law. i did not know these people in my dream and i could not see their faces.

This dream sounds like it means a lot to you. Your mother could represent your mother's influence or an aspect of self you associate with your mother. Since she is driving, this would show me that this influence is what is driving your life's direction right now. You are on your way to church so this may relate to spiritual matters although does not need to.
Speeding could mean you are making reckless decisions and are moving too fast in life. Since you aren't driving, I would wonder if you feel like you need to keep up and move faster. Car accidents could relate to a conflict- spiritual, a conflict of ideas, etc. Now you are in a state after the conflict and are focusing on how to repair/heal. If this were my dream, I would want to identify what is colliding, what is conflicting? The white car could be associated with innocence and the blue car could be associated with depression or personal expression.
This dream would prompt me to re-evaluate what I am doing in life and look to resolve any issues or any decisions I have made that may not be working as planned.

Last night I dreamt of being in a white car with my mother in the drivers seat. We were on our way to church and as she sped (too fast) down the road, she was looking at the houses and ignoring my plea to be careful. We smashed into the back of the blue car in front of us and then parked up on some grass under a shelter to phone the insurance company.
It was very strange although it sounds quite normal - I was unnerved when I woke!

This dream gives me the impression that you are perceiving something as dangerous and threatening due to those colors. Dreaming of something with two heads could relate to conflicted thoughts about the idea. Spiders can be a very positive symbol and are usually feminine but here you sound like you may be fearing it. Since the carpet and going down a step are highlighted, it gives me the impression that matters of the heart need more of your attention. Have you been overthinking or overanalyzing? I was sitting on some carpet staring at a two-headed spider that was super close to me. The spider was the same color as the carpet: red, black, and yellow. It just crawled a few feet down one step into another room with the same carpeting and i woke up.

Perhaps she is noticing, or has experienced herself, a significant change in mindset that has led to this change in lifestyle. Since cars relate to our direction in life, it sounds like this dream is reflecting an old direction that may need some changes. You are in the passenger seat so it sounds like you are being too passive and are not feeling in control over your direction. What is positive is that you are able to stop and your life is not out of control. You parked your car so perhaps you are finding you are in type of break or pause within your life. This may be a good time to re-evaluate things and determine what your next direction should be.
Seeing your car broken into and smashed may relate to you feeling violated, attacked, and sabotaged in some way. Your life's path may be in need of repair and some TLC. Thank you for an insightful article! I wanted to let you know about my dream:
I was in a beige old "boat" car (one I'd never be caught dead in!) I was in the passenger seat with no one at the wheel, but I was somehow comfortable as I looked down the road and saw that it was a straight shot for some time. As we neared a stop light intersection I knew the car needed to slow down or stop, but I also knew that if I tried to get into the passenger seat it would throw off the balance of the car and I'd begin to swerve. So as I neared the intersection, I reached down to the break and pressed it down hard and just in time to come to a halt at the stop light.
Earlier, I had passed my truck (a red Tacoma). I had parked it in a "safe" place near a friend's place, but when I passed it I saw that it had been broken into, the windows smashed and the driver door was wide open. But since I no one was driving I couldn't stop.

Ice/water often represents emotion. To be dancing on frozen emotions, may relate to how you deal with emotional issues. It sounds like emotions are repressed. Do you skate around issues? Dance can be a way of expressing and the skater is wearing blue- a color that may relate to self-expression or depression. Perhaps there are emotions that need to flow more readily for you?

thank you, I think it is about integrating into one. Anyway, I would like to tell you that whenever I see the butterfly symbol or a meditating Shiva something good happens. I am experiencing growth at the moment and somewhat abundance as well. So, may be it is related to it. The fairy godmother reminds me of my late grandmother. I am not in a relationship at present. Butterflies are already associated with transformation and spirituality but to have them transformed from water is a double symbol. The two butterflies meeting could mean a few things. You could be yearning and beginning to find your spiritual path and are currently going under a spiritual transformation. The two butterflies could be an emphasis on this symbol or they could be symbolizing the need to integrate two ideas into one-- I do not know much about Hindu beliefs but perhaps you are finding your current beliefs are a hybrid between a few different Hindu disciplines. The butterflies may also show you that you are seeking a marriage rooted within spirituality. It sounds like spirituality and your religious identity are important to you and you have a need to have this identity permeate all aspects of your life-- including relationships.

What about seeing a fairy godmother who makes the two butterflies meet? I saw two droplets getting turned into two butterflies by the fairy godmother.
I don't watch too many fairy tales. But I've started to watch them now to find answers.
Anyway, even when I'm not thinking of the dream. I see the dream symbols in real life. For example, I dreamt about a Gurudwara (place of worship of Sikhs) some months back and then when I went there, as I was taking rounds suddenly a black butterfly started accompanying me. My sister was there too, but it didn't accompany her. I am not a Sikh or Punjabi; I am a Hindu Maharashtrian.
I don't have any Sikh connections but this happened to me. Quite strange!

A black and pink butterfly makes sense even though I am fairly certain one does not exist in real life.
Butterflies tend to be associated with transition, exploration, spirituality, personal growth, relationships (social butterfly), etc. Black can be associated with the unknown. Pink tends to be associated with innocence, love, healing. In this case, it is likely associated with universal love and growing as a person through love and connections with others during a time of personal transformation.
